One definition of Salve:One who has lost the poser of resistance; or one who surrenders himself to any power whatever; as a slave to passion, to lust, to ambition.
Exodus 13:3, vs 17-18
3 Moses said to the people, “Always remember this day. This is the day when you came out of Egypt from a house of slavery. God brought you out of here with a powerful hand. Don’t eat any raised bread.
17 It so happened that after Pharaoh released the people, God didn’t lead them by the road through the land of the Philistines, which was the shortest route, for God thought, “If the people encounter war, they’ll change their minds and go back to Egypt.”
18 So God led the people on the Wilderness Road, looping around to the Red Sea. The Israelites left Egypt in military formation.
This is so interesting to me! Let us not forget the day when God calls us out of the house of slavery before we really knew Him and all He can do. So amazing. That feeling that comes with freedom is indescribable…
Why do we still feel like we are in a “house” of slavery in certain areas of our life??
What is your house of slavery? House of slavery to our addictions? Slavery to a negative minds? Unworthiness? slavery to ________________?(you fill in the blanks)…
Sometime the freedom of “slavery” feels like a long road and a hard road, and quite frankly I get frustrated……. well, actually, pissed in the process. But reading this passage helped me understand some things. v17 says It so happened that after Pharaoh released the people, God didn’t lead them by the road through the land of the Philistines, which was the shortest route, for God thought, “If the people encounter war, they’ll change their minds and go back to Egypt.”
First off, I am released!
Secondly, He knows that if I am not ready for the fight I tend to go back to my old mindset, give up the fight and go right back to what I’m familiar with and comfortable with even if it is “slavery”.
He needs to take me the long way many times in my life because He likes to build my muscles by making me crawl, walk or run through it so I can be strong when the fight has to happen, and it will have to happen, pharaoh doesn’t want to lose his power over me as a slave. We must proceed forward, going back is not an option.
Thirdly, God did set me free and did it in military formation! I’m in an army which makes me a soldier and I didn’t even know it because before Him my life felt lonely, selfish and defeated!! Wow!
1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV) 13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.
You must look at and study the word of God! It will not jump out from the book in to your mind without you looking or studying it, you must work towards it. Fight for your freedom.
A Christian must deliberately renew their minds or their faith will be limited.
To be Deliberate means= carefully thought out and done intentionally, to consider something carefully and in detail. (kind of like a soldier huh?)
To renew the mind is the most important thing you can do for your growth as a as a person. Some Christians don’t change because they haven’t changed their ways of thinking.
What’s your takeaway?
