When life gives you hard places, erect the hard place as a monument to God.
There are so many challenges in life that will feel impossible to get through. Times where you feel despair, frustration, lost, angry and down right tiered. You just can’t go another day on this journey. Man, oh man have I been there, done that and sure to go through more of it. So what do you do when you are on hard times and in those hard places? The sun is down, the night is here and you’re exhausted?!
Let God in on your journey. He will take those hard places and turn them into a blessing…. How? I- DO- NOT- KNOW! I wish I did then every time I go though something “impossible” it wouldn’t feel so impossible.
I remember one night I had a powerful dream which I will tell on some later blog post. I will say this, I woke up like WHOA! what was that, and God said “Your life experiences will inspire others” I wrote it down.. A week later I go to eat dinner with some friends at PF Changs and I open up a fortune cookie and it says “your life experiences will inspire others.” Say What!!?! the same words He spoke to me when I woke up from the dream….
I started crying and I said to my friends, “God speaks through fortune cookies”. Of course He can, He can do whatever He wants to get your attention to the fact that He is real. The funny thing is that my friend Lisa(God rest her soul) told me that God spoke to her through a fortune cookie months before and I laughed at the thought that God would even do that.. and so He did it to me to, just to prove a point. Point taken Lord, point taken.
Jacob’s Dream at Bethel
10 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. 11 When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. 12 He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 There above it stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. 14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. 15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” 17 He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.”
18 Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. 19 He called that place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz.
Sometimes our situations, journeys, hard times feel so long. Jacob was on a long journey to find a wife, he wasn’t there yet and had to stop because the night was approaching and he was tiered. He must not have had lots of comforts with him or why would he have set a stone under his head to rest, that doesn’t sound very comfortable to me.
In his dream on the hard stone, God already showed him he was going to be blessed and have many descendants, so of course that means that his journey going forward was going to be successful at finding a wife and producing offspring. That gives hope, when you realize and know that God already has gone ahead and has it all worked out for you.
In vs 15 God let’s Jacob know that he is with him, will bless him and will never leave him.
I love when Jacob wakes up in vs 16 and says “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” then he sets up the hard stone and makes it a pillar to God.
In our lives we need to take up the stones in our lives, our hard places and know that God has a plan and is already gone before us to work it out. We need to take that hard place and give it to God as an offering. He will anoint it and it will bless others. We can’t always see God in our hard times and situations, but surely the Lord is in this place and we are not aware of it.
He will be with you and take care of all of your needs before you get there and along the way.. Amen!
Deuteronomy 31:8 New International Version (NIV)
8 The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
